Mixed Drink Formula from Tolo Beans, Corn, and Moringa Leaf (Moringa oleifera) and Its Effect on Decreasing Malnutrition Status in Children Aged 24-59 Month
Underweight nutritional status in children is a sensitive indicator for quality of life. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines that the problem of malnutrition because of the imbalance between the needs of the energy consumption and nutrients produces cumulative deficiency of macro and micro nutrients which negatively affect the growth, development and other health effects. Moringa leaves are known throughout the world as nutritious plants and the World Health Organization (WHO) has introduced Moringa as one of the alternative foods to overcome malnutrition. Moringa oleifera is a type of tropical plant that is easy to grow in tropical regions such as Indonesia. But in Indonesia itself the use of Moringa is still not well known, normally known as one of the menu of vegetables, therefore the purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of functional drinks of local food (Moringa leaves, nuts Tolo, and corn) as a food supplement children aged 24-59 months on nutritional status and nutrient intake. The research method used was the experimental method in children aged 24-59 months in the Jagakarsa Community Health Center area which was divided into intervention groups with a total sample of 28 children and a control group of 29 children with interventions for approximately 30 days. The results showed an influence between nutritional status TB / U after intervention (p value 0.024). There is a tendency to increase energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, and Zn intake especially in the intervention group compared to the control group.
