UJI EFEKTIVITAS VARIASI KOMBINASI DOSIS SERBUK BIJI PEPAYA (Carica papaya L) DAN BIJI ASAM JAWA (Tamarindus indica) SEBAGAI BIOKOAGULAN DALAM MENURUNKAN KADAR TSS AIR LIMBAH LAUNDRY TAHUN 2025
River water pollution, particularly in Jakarta, is predominantly caused by domestic wastewater, including laundry effluent. This wastewater contains a high concentration of total suspended solids (TSS), exceeding the quality standard (354 mg/L compared to the 100 mg/L standard). The use of conventional coagulants has long-term negative environmental impacts, necessitating the development of eco-friendly biocoagulant alternatives. rnrnThis study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a combined powder of papaya seeds (Carica papaya L.) and tamarind seeds (Tamarindus indica) in reducing TSS levels in laundry wastewater and to analyze its effect on pH. The research utilized an experimental design with a Pretest-Posttest with Control Group approach. The coagulation-flocculation process was conducted using the jar test method with various biocoagulant doses (papaya seeds: 2.5 gr, 3 gr, 3.5 gr; tamarind seeds: 3.1 gr, 3.4 gr, 3.7 gr). TSS levels and pH were measured before and after treatment, and the data were analyzed using the One-Way ANOVA and Post Hoc tests. rnrnThe initial TSS concentration of the wastewater was 354 mg/L. After treatment, a significant TSS reduction occurred, resulting in a concentration of 172 mg/L. The highest removal percentage was 51.4%, achieved at a dosage of 2.5 g of papaya seeds and 3.1 g of tamarind seeds. The results of this study show a significant difference between the control group and all tested dose combinations (p-value 0.05). However, the pH of the laundry wastewater did not change significantly after the coagulation and flocculation treatment, indicating that the biocoagulant dose variations did not affect the acidity of the wastewater. The findings suggest that the tested combinations of papaya and tamarind seed powder are not yet effective in reducing TSS levels in Laundry wastewater to meet the quality standards. Therefore, further research is recommended to achieve a reduction in TSS that meets these standards, or to explore additional combined treatment methods. rnrnReferences : 30 (2001-2024) rnClassification : rnClassification : Wastewater Treatment rnPapaya Seeds rnTamarind Seeds rnResearch Methods rnOthers rn: 8 rn: 5 rn: 3 rn: 2 rn: 12
