ABSTRACT
Ship sanitation is an effort aimed at environmental risk factors on ships to break the
chain of disease transmission in order to maintain and enhance the health status. Ship
sanitation covers all aspects of the ship compartment assessment, including kitchens,
food serving rooms, crew and passenger room warehouses, clean water supply,
garbage disposal, feces disposal, hold, waste treatment, ballast water, engine rooms
and other areas.
This type of descriptive research was conducted with the aim of knowing the sanitary
conditions of passenger ships at the Merak Ferry Port have met the requirements or
not. Primary data is obtained based on direct observation, while secondary data is
obtained based on data obtained from related agencies and existing literatures.
The results showed that the sanitary conditions on the passenger ship that were the
object of the study did not meet the requirements, the percentage was below 80%,
namely the kitchen area and clean water supply, while for other research areas, the
percentage was above 80%. In general, sanitation for serving food places, food storage,
crew and passenger rooms, garbage disposal and feces disposal have met the
requirements.
It is hoped that the ship will improve and maintain the sanitary conditions of the ship.
This aims to prevent contamination on the ship that can cause health problems.
