This research aims to determine the effect of using STIR and Dixon fat supression technique to the value of knee joint MRI image parameter in coronal slices.
The research design is qualitative descriptive with observation and experiment approach. The research was conducted from February to March 2020 at Fatmawati Central General Hospital, with the total amount of sample 7 patients with 2 different technique. Both MRI image were compared with parameter from each sequences, and evaluated by parameter that has been determined.
The result from the MRI image with fat supression STIR shows there is no blur artefact which reduce the image quality, especially in the meniscus area, and very hypointense detailed. Eventhough the MRI image quality with fat suppresion dixon is not optimal in the meniscus area, it shows no blur artefact which affect the reduction of details in popliteal veins. The popliteal veins in Knee Joint MRI image looks hyperintense and firm.
The conclusion of this study is fat supression STIR produces better qualityof MRI image than dixon in meniscus area, which is very hypointense detailed. But fat suppression dixon technique produces better image of popliteal veins that is very hyperintense detailed. In Knee Joint MRI, the scan time of fat suppression dixon is 02:20 minutes and this technique produces 2 MRI image at once, fat suppression and water suppression. Meanwhile fat suppression STIR needs 02:56 minutes to produce MRI image.
