Uji Coba Efektifitas Variasi Ketebalan Karbon Aktif Tempurung Kelapa Sebagai Media Saring Terhadap Penurunan Kadar Mangan (Mn), Tahun 2015
Water is needed for a healthy life, in principle, should qualify the good or healthy physical, chemical , and does not contain germs harmful . ( MOH , 1990)
At home Mr Muhammad Sintaniah in RT 004 RW 011 Ciputat South Tangerang , on the results of laboratory tests contain high levels of manganese 1,649 mg/l exceeded the specified quality standards. Water quality, the water physical examination yellowish, odorless, and pose a brownish yellow spots on the bathroom floor, so that necessary treatment to reduce levels of these metals. Activated carbon is an alternative material that is used to treat water. Activated carbon is used, namely coconut shell activated carbon. Coconut shell activated carbon well as absorbent material (adsorbent) as coconut shell activated carbon has a micro-porous high (Chemviron Carbon 2004)
This research is an experiment in order to determine the effectiveness of the thickness of coconut shell activated carbon filter in the lower levels of manganese in water samples. This research was conducted in June 2015 and implemented in the Poltekkes Jakarta II. The population was water containing manganese emanating from an electric pump wellsat home Mr Muhammad Sintaniah in RT 004 RW 011 Ciputat South Tangerang. The sample used in this study is as much as 80 liters of water. Tests performed sample treatment using coconut shell activated carbon filter with thickness variation of 0 cm as a control , 30 cm , 45 cm , 60 cm , and 75 cm at the rate of 2 liters/ minute. This study design using one group pretest posttest design, with treatments and repetitions 5 times 3 times each treatment
The conclusion of the research conducted on the effectiveness of the thickness of coconut shell activated carbon filter in the lower levels of manganese obtained an average yield levels of Manganese in the control sample at 1.380 mg/L; at a thickness of 30 cm which is 1.111 mg/L ; at a thickness of 45 cm which is 0.709 mg/L ; at a thickness of 60 cm which is 0.505 mg/L; and the thickness of 75 cm which is 0.391 mg/L . Of five treatments that have been carried out , the thickness of coconut shell activated carbon that effectively lower levels of manganese , which is the thickness of 75 cm because it has met the quality standards PERMENKES No. 416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990, which does not exceed 0.5 mg/l
