Thematically, background of this research focuses on the elastography examination technique,
constituting an advanced imaging modality that effectively assesses the characteristics of soft
tissue in the liver, where the determination of fibrosis stage serves as a key diagnostic indicator. In
relation to which, shear wave elastography offers the advantage of B-mode guidance, enabling
precise selection of liver parenchyma for accurate liver stiffness assessment.
The objective of this research is to evaluate the elastography examination procedure under fasting
and non-fasting conditions in the patients with clinical Hepatitis B and to assess liver stiffness
measurements under both conditions.
This research applies a qualitative descriptive research design. The research was undertaken in
Radiology Department of Cengkareng Regional General Hospital starting from August 2024 up to
November 2024, involving a total of 14 participants. As for the data collection methods, they
include among the other things observation, interviews, and documentation. The research
instruments consist of worksheets and documentation tools.
The results of this research indicate that fasting prior to the examination was implemented because
two procedures namely abdominal ultrasound and elastography were conducted simultaneously.
The fasting requirement was solely to support the abdominal ultrasound examination, while
elastography carried out at Cengkareng Regional General Hospital is routinely performed without
fasting.
Out of the 14 study samples, liver stiffness calculations showed an increase in 8 samples, while 6
samples exhibited a decrease in average stiffness values. However, the overall differences in liver
stiffness measurements between the fasting and non-fasting conditions were not significant.
These findings suggest that fasting does not have a significant impact on elastography results in
patients with mild to moderate liver fibrosis.
