Pathologically, Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a cardiac arrhythmia that can lead to significant morbidity and mortality, including impaired quality of life, heart failure, systemic embolism, and stroke. In relation to which, more than 90% of left atrial thrombi in AF patients that result in stroke occur in the Left Atrial Appendage (LAA). Several journals report that Cardiac CT with the delayed contrast technique provides optimal imaging for identifying thrombus in the Left Atrial Appendage (LAA). This technique has already been implemented at Harapan Kita Heart and Vascular Hospital.
This research aims to evaluate the procedure and outcomes of Cardiac CT examination with the delayed contrast technique for identifying thrombus in the Left Atrial Appendage carried out at Harapan Kita Heart and Vascular Hospital.
The research design used is descriptive qualitative, involving direct observation approach of Cardiac CT examinations with the delayed contrast technique for thrombus identification in the Left Atrial Appendage, as well as in-depth interviews with two cardiologists and three radiographers who have more than 10 years of experience in Cardiac CT undertaken at Harapan Kita Heart and Vascular Hospital. This research was conducted starting from November up to December 2024 using a Somatom Drive CT scanner, with 12 secondary data samples from the patients who underwent Cardiac CT examination with the delayed contrast technique for thrombus identification in the Left Atrial Appendage. As for the data processing involved among the other things recording the results of observations and interviews, as well as performing a validity test using source triangulation from theory, observational results, and interview results.
The results of this research indicate that Cardiac CT with the delayed contrast technique is effective in identifying thrombus in the Left Atrial Appendage.
