This research aims to determine HU value adjustment technique in contrast-enhanced
head CT scans by using kVp 120 and kVp 100, in the hope to get an optimal image quality result.
This research applies a quantitative method with analytical study approach undertaken at
Radiology Department of Teungku Chik Ditiro Regional Hospital, Sigli starting from July up to
September 2024. As for the sample used herein, it consisted of 10 patients undergoing contrastenhanced head CT scans, with axial image acquisition performed using a Philips MSCT 128-Slice
scanner. Accordingly, this research evaluated axial slice images acquired at kVp 120 and kVp 100.
Image quality was assessed by the respondents based on spatial resolution, contrast resolution, and
noise.
The results indicate that kVp 100 yields high spatial resolution and contrast resolution
and also higher noise levels. In contrast, kVp 120 results in lower spatial resolution, contrast
resolution, and noise levels. In this matter, the mean variation in HU values for kVp 120 was 4,
with a highly distinct assessment, indicating an improved spatial resolution at this setting.
According to theoretical references, higher tube voltage enhances spatial resolution. The mean
variation in HU values for kVp 100 was 3.84, also rated as highly distinct. Furthermore, based on
theoretical references, contrast resolution, defined as the CT scan's ability to differentiate objects
with varying densities, if HU value variation is kVp 100, it improves that contract resolution
increases.
