Background: medically, intra-abdominal tumours/masses are abnormal growths in the abdomen
that structurally resemble normal tissue but lack function and place a burden on the body, affecting
internal abdominal organs. In relation to which, anatomical information provided by abdominal
CT scans is influenced by image quality factors, including among the other things spatial
resolution, contrast resolution, noise, and artifacts. In this matter, window width impacts image
contrast, where higher window widths result in lower contrast. Meanwhile, window level affects
the brightness of the image.
Research Objective: this research aims to evaluate the variations in window width and window
level in abdominal CT scan examinations for intra-abdominal mass cases and to determine the
optimal window width and window level values that provide the best anatomical information.
Research Design: the research design applied in this research is a quantitative approach,
observing the imaging results of abdominal CT scans in the cases of intra-abdominal masses
confirmed by a radiologist. The research involves variations in window width and window level
values. The sample comprises six patients undergoing abdominal CT scans for intra-abdominal
mass cases, with adjustments made to the window width and window level values. The resulting
images were evaluated by three observers to obtain anatomical information from the abdominal
CT scans in cases of intra-abdominal masses
Research Results: this research identified significant differences in the anatomical information of
abdominal CT scans for intra-abdominal mass cases with variations in window width and window
level. The optimal values were found to be a Window Width of 300 HU and a Window Level of
60 HU, which can serve as reference values for providing anatomical information in axial CT scan
slices for intra-abdominal mass cases.
