EVALUATION OF CTDIvol AND DLP VALUES IN NON-CONTRAST HEAD CT SCANS
UNDERTAKEN AT MOTHER AND CHILD HOSPITAL ACEH PROVINCE

Radiologically, CTDIvol and DLP are two key parameters used to measure the radiation dose
received by the patient during a CT scan procedure. In this matter, CTDIvol measures the radiation
dose distributed across a single image slice, while DLP represents the total radiation dose,
calculated based on the length of the scanned body area. Accordingly, the evaluation of these
parameters serves as the foundation for ensuring that the radiation dose received by the patient
remains within safe limits.
This research aims to analyse the values of CTDIvol and DLP in non-contrast head CT scans
conducted at Mother and Child Hospital, Aceh Province and compare them with the diagnostic
reference levels established by Indonesia’s Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten).
This research applies a descriptive quantitative research method with an evaluative approach. As
for the population of the research, it consists of all CTDIvol and DLP values from non-contrast
head CT scans obtained retrospectively from September to November 2024, totalling 44 patients.
Meanwhile the sample used in this research is based on total sampling.
The results of the research show that the 75th percentile values for CTDIvol and DLP are 35.05
mGy and 932.1375 mGy·cm, respectively. These values remain below the diagnostic reference
levels (DRLs) stipulated by the Indonesia’s Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten).
Conclusion: The average CTDIvol value for non-contrast head CT scans undertaken at Mother and
Child Hospital, Aceh Province is 35.05 mGy. And then, the average DLP value is 880.7543
mGy·cm, with a range from 726.21 to 1059.20 mGy·cm. Both values are lower than the diagnostic
reference levels (DRLs) established by Bapeten, which are 60 mGy for CTDIvol and 1275
mGy·cm for DLP. Hence, this result indicates that the radiation dose received by the patients is
within safe limits and adheres to dose optimization practices.
