NON-CONTRAST ABDOMINAL CT SCAN IN CLINICAL CASES OF OVARIAN
TUMORS

Technologically, the advantages of using CT scan technology include the ability to evaluate
tumour size, detect metastasis to the liver and lymph nodes, identify ascites, and observe tumour
spread to the abdominal wall, all within a short examination time. According to pathology data
from Indonesia, ovarian cancer ranks as the third leading cause of death among malignancies in
the female reproductive system, following breast and cervical cancers. Ovarian tumours originate
from ovarian cells that proliferate excessively or abnormally.
The non-contrast MSCT abdominal examination conducted at Cut Nyak Dhien Regional General
Hospital, Meulaboh does not involve the use of contrast agents or special preparation. This
research adopts a qualitative approach with subjects and objects analysed as case studies. As for
data collection methods, it includes among the other things direct observation, interviews, and
documentation, followed by analysis using a participatory observational model consisting of data
collection, data reduction, data presentation, discussion, and conclusion stages.
In conclusion, the research results describe the procedure for non-contrast MSCT abdominal
imaging in the cases with a clinical suspicion of ovarian tumours. The examination does not
require any special preparation but utilizes a 2D measurement method, where measurements taken
on a single image slice can adequately depict the tumour in the pelvic area using Axial, Sagittal,
and Coronal planes. The boundaries between the ovarian tumour and surrounding tissues are
clearly delineated, and adjacent abdominal organs are also well-visualized.
