Background of this Research is regarding nephrolithiasis condition, or kidney stone formation,
which can cause severe pain and lead to complications if it is left untreated. In relation to which,
MSCT abdomen imaging has become the diagnostic standard for nephrolithiasis due to its ability
to provide an accurate visualization. However, specific protocols for nephrolithiasis require further
refinement. Therefore, an evaluation of the procedures at Langsa Regional Hospital was conducted
to identify the strengths and limitations of the current protocols, aiming to enhance the quality of
diagnostic services and patient management.
This research aims to describe and evaluate the MSCT abdomen scan protocols for
nephrolithiasis cases undertaken at Langsa Regional General Hospital, Aceh, focusing on the
examination procedures and the resulting image quality.
Research Design used is descriptive qualitative method, with data collection methods including
among the other things observation to obtain an overall view of the MSCT abdomen procedure for
nephrolithiasis carried out at Langsa Regional General Hospital, interviews with radiologists and
radiographers for further insights, and documentation. The research was conducted starting from
October up to January 2025 undertaken at Langsa Regional Hospital. The sample consists of
secondary data in the form of images from the patients who underwent MSCT abdomen scans with
nephrolithiasis clinical indications.
Results of the research found that the MSCT abdomen examination procedure undertaken at
Langsa Regional General Hospital largely adheres to theoretical standards, with several
modifications that enhance service quality. The administration of diuretic fluids to increase urine
volume was implemented. SOP evaluation revealed the need for separate SOPs for MSCT
abdomen and MSCT urography procedures to optimize the quality of radiological images.
