“MEASUREMENT OF MODULATION TRANSFER FUNCTION IN HEAD CT SCAN
PROTOCOL WITH VARIATIONS IN TUBE CURRENT TIME AND IDOSE”
V Chapters + 32 Pages + 9 Images + 2 Table + 8 Attachments
Background: radiologically, in the efforts to optimize head CT scan protocols, variations in tube
current and the use of iterative reconstruction (IR) are often combined to reduce patient radiation
dose, which may impact image quality and radiation exposure. In relation to which, the
Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) is an objective measurement used to assess spatial resolution
in CT images. It is expected to provide valuable information on image quality while striving to
achieve the lowest possible radiation dose.
Research Methods: this research applies descriptive quantitative method using a head CT scan
protocol applied to a CT quality control phantom with variations in tube current settings of 200
mA and 300 mA, combined with iDose. Furthermore, analysis was performed on 10 image slices,
and the 50% Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) values were calculated using ImageJ software.
Further analysis was conducted to evaluate the effect of tube current variations combined with
iterative reconstruction (IR) on the 50% MTF values.
Results: the research found that the MTF values for different tube current settings and their
combinations with iterative reconstruction (IR) tended to remain consistent across all 50% MTF
values, regardless of whether the tube current was set at 200 mA or 300 mA, with or without the
combination of IR.
