THE EFFECT OF SCAN TIME DELAY ON LIVER ENHANCEMENT IN
CT ABDOMINAL EXAMINATIONS FOR SUSPECTED METASTASIS
UNDERTAKEN AT DR. FAUZIAH BIREUEN HOSPITAL
Purposefully, this research aims to analyse the effect of scan time delay on
liver enhancement during CT abdominal examinations in the patients with
clinically suspected metastasis.
This research design is done by applying a quantitative research method
with an analytical approach undertaken at Dr. Fauziah Bireun Hospital starting
from October up to November 2024. As for the population used herein it includes
all patients undergoing CT abdominal examinations for suspected metastasis
using an injector in Radiology Installation of Dr. Fauziah Bireun Regional
General Hospital. While the primary data sample consists of 10 patients.
Data collection method used herein was in the form of observation and
measurement of Hounsfield Unit (HU) values in the liver. Measurements were
taken from three Regions of Interest (ROI) namely the upper right lobe, the lower
right lobe, and the left lobe, with the average calculated. Research instruments
included worksheets and computers.
Accordingly, this research showed an increase in liver enhancement with
longer scan time delays. The measured HU values for the liver were namely 50-
second scan time delay is 80.8 HU, 55-second scan time delay is 83.5 HU while
60-second scan time delay is 89.8 HU
In view of that, the findings indicate that the most optimal liver enhancement was
achieved with a 60-second scan time delay following contrast media injection.
In conclusion, the optimal liver enhancement in CT abdominal
examinations is obtained with a scan time delay of 60 seconds post-contrast
injection.
