Research Background: radiologically, Computed Tomography Scanner (CT scan) is a diagnostic
modality that serves as a vital tool in diagnosing neurological abnormalities. It combines X-rays
and computer technology to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body from multiple
angles. In this matter, if it is compared to conventional X-rays, CT scans provide greater quality
and depth, enabling the simultaneous visualization of vascular and osseous structures.
In relation to which, head injury is a significant health issue in Indonesia, particularly as a leading
cause of mortality in traffic accidents. Daily, hospitals encounter new head injury cases ranging
from mild to severe. Most patients are motorcyclists involved in accidents who were not wearing
helmets. Head injuries encompass trauma to the scalp, brain, and skull. Mild head injury is defined
as an incident with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 13–15, potentially accompanied by loss
of consciousness for less than 10 minutes. If associated with fractures, contusions, or hematomas,
patients may present with symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, nausea, and vomiting.
The objective of this research is to describe the CT Head examination techniques in mild head
injury cases undertaken at Radiology Unit of Meuraxa Regional General Hospital, Banda Aceh.
Research Methods: this research applies qualitative descriptive research with a case study
approach. As for the data collection methods, it was collected through among the other things
observation, interviews, and documentation. This research was conducted in December 2024
undertaken at Meuraxa Regional General Hospital, Banda Aceh, after obtaining ethical clearance.
Meanwhile research instruments used are observation sheets which were used to record the
findings during the research, and interview guidelines were utilized for discussions carried out
with 3 respondents.
Furthermore, data processing and analysis were processed through reduction, presentation, and
conclusion drawing.
Research Results: this research indicates that the head CT scan procedure for mild head injury
cases aligns with theoretical standards observed in practice. However, there are differences in
approach depending on whether the patient is cooperative or uncooperative.
To obtain optimal imaging results, it is recommended that physicians request 3D reconstruction
images to better evaluate the presence of fractures. Nevertheless, fractures can already be
identified in the bone window reconstruction images.
