Purposefully, this research aims to analyse the effect of varying slice thickness on the
image quality of non-contrast urology CT scans for nephrolithiasis cases. The research
was conducted at Cut Meutia Regional General Hospital, North Aceh Regency, with
variations in slice thickness values of 1 mm, 3 mm, and 5 mm, aiming to produce highly
detailed images.
This research applies a qualitative method with descriptive approach to describe the
objectives and images obtained during the examinations. As for the research, it was
carried out starting from July up to September 2024 undertaken at Radiology Department
of Cut Meutia Regional General Hospital, North Aceh Regency. The sample consisted of
15 patients undergoing non-contrast CT abdomen scans for nephrolithiasis cases. Images
were obtained in the axial plane using a Siemens Somatom 64-slice MSCT scanner. In
this matter, the research evaluated axial images with slice thickness variations of 1 mm, 3
mm, and 5 mm. While image quality was assessed by respondents based on spatial
resolution, contrast resolution, and noise, considering variations in slice thickness values.
Based on the results of spatial resolution research on CT scan abdominal urography
examination in cases of nephrolithiasis, the most optimal spatial resolution image quality
is when the slice thickness is 1 mm so that the image results look very clear. The most
optimal resolution contrast image quality is seen when the slice thickness is 1 mm. The
most optimal image quality in terms of noise appearance occurs when the slice thickness
is 5 mm.
