Medically, in optimizing the patient care, it is crucial to determine the appropriate optimization
procedure that maintains radiation dose as low as reasonably achievable while ensuring an optimal
image quality. In relation to which, this research aims to establish an optimization procedure by
combining iterative reconstruction (IR) techniques and variations in tube voltage during the
performance of head CT examinations. As for the research was undertaken at Zainoel Abidin
Hospital, Banda Aceh, starting from September up to November 2024. This research applies a
descriptive quantitative method by collecting scan image data using combinations of IR techniques
standard, ADMIRE 3, and ADMIRE 5 and tube voltage variations (80 kVp, 110 kVp, 130 kVp).
The analysis determined the optimal procedure by measuring image quality parameters, including
Hounsfield Units (HU), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and noise, along with the radiation dose
(CTDIvol).
The results showed that HU measurements ranged from 0.38 to 0.01. Additionally, SNR values
increased with the combination of higher IR levels and tube voltage variations. The recommended
optimization procedure, balancing image quality and radiation dose for head CT examinations, is
110 kVp with IR ADMIRE 3 or ADMIRE 5. These findings considerably require further
development and comprehensive validation before direct implementation in clinical settings.
