Background of Research: Technically, in order to ensure the quality of CT scan image can be
accordingly guaranteed, as well as to keep the radiation dose below the specified limits, a quality
control program is consequently required in CT Scan machine. Whereby one of the quality control
programs for CT scan machines is to test the suitability of CT number and noise values by using
water phantom. Furthermore, average value and standard deviation of HU from phantom water test
increases beyond the tolerance limit indicating that a CT number mismatches and the image looks
more noisy which identifies a low contrast resolution. In practice, this matter can be prevented by
such a process called air calibration. For that reason, this calibration characterizes the differences
in the response of each detector. The projection data measured in CT scan machine that will be
reconstructed are normalized by a calibration scan, and this procedure can considerably rectify the
identified inhomogeneity.
Objectives of Research: in relation to which, this research aims to analyze CT number and noise
values before and after calibration of CT scan machine.
Research Design: This research uses a quantitative analysis method by applying a case study
approach. This research was undertaken at Banyuasin Regional General Hospital starting from
August up to November 2023. As for the samples used in this study, they are 30 average HU
values and 30 standard deviation of HU values before and after air calibration on the water
phantom image. Water phantom scans were carried out before and after calibration of CT scan
machine of GE Revolution Acts 16 Slice for 30 days. The Wilcoxon test was used to assess
whether there was any difference in CT number and noise values between before and after
calibration.
